Bishop Manoj Charan takes over the charge of the Diocese of Amritsar, Church of North India
AMRITSAR, MARCH 3: Bishop Manoj Charan, Bishop of Bombay Diocese, Church of North India (CNI), has taken over the charge of the Diocese of Amritsar (DoA), CNI. As per provisions in the CNI Constitution, when a bishopric falls vacant, the total care and charge of the diocese devolves upon the Moderator. He has the right to appoint either a priest from the diocese as his commissary, or a Bishop as his episcopal commissary.
Exercising his constitutional authority, The Most Rev B K Naik, Moderator of the CNI Synod, has appointed Bishop Manoj Charan as his Episcopal Commissary. Bishop Charan will be looking after the full charge and care of the diocese.
This development follows the superannuation of The Most Rev Dr P K Samantaroy, Bishop, DoA, CNI, who gave his services for more than 25 years and happens to be the longest serving bishop in a single diocese. Bishop Samantaroy has served as Deputy Moderator, Moderator, and General Secretary of the CNI, besides many international forums.
As a bishop in the diocese, Bishop Charan will oversee the spiritual and administrative affairs of the Diocese of Amritsar. With his rich experience and leadership, Bishop Charan is well-equipped to guide the diocese in its mission to spread the message of love, compassion, and service.
Bishop Charan reiterated his commitment to prioritizing evangelism, education, environmental initiatives, and social outreach programmes of the diocese. He emphasized the importance of promoting interfaith dialogue to maintain peace and harmony in the region.
“I am humbled and honoured to take over the additional charge of the DoA, CNI” said Bishop Charan, while addressing the media. “I look forward to working with the clergy, laity, and community leaders to build a more erudite, committed, just and compassionate society.”
The Diocese of Amritsar, CNI, serves a diverse population and is committed to promoting unity, peace, and social justice. Under Bishop Charan's leadership, the diocese is expected to continue its mission of serving the marginalized and the vulnerable sections of the society.
The office bearers, executive committee members, heads of institutions, presbyters, lay leaders, and functionaries of the diocese were also present on this occasion.
